I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven
Even before The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus came up with this beautiful song, our guardian angels have already been singing the same lines to us, except that they don't need to be sent back to heaven because they actually dwell there. :)
Today, we honor the Holy Guardian Angels whom God has sent to enlighten, guard, govern, and guide us. Angels are divine spirits with no human form. God has put them in charge of us to guide us in all our ways.
The readings for today speak about them and I'd like to quote the verses which I find most affirming:
First Reading:
"See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. Be attentive to him and heed his voice." (Exodus 23:20-21)
Responsorial Psalm:
No evil shall befall you,
nor shall affliction come near your tent,
for to his angels he has given command about you,
that they guard you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:10-11)
Gospel:
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father. (Matthew 18:4-5, 10)
Since I was born on a Wednesday, my guardian angel is the Archangel Uriel (God is my light), one of the seven archangels, and the Angel of Wisdom, :) Sharing with you this prayer to St. Uriel:
Oh holy St. Uriel, come to our aid with your legion of angels! Intercede for us that our hearts may burn with the fire of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts. Assist us in co-operating with the graces of our confirmation that the gifts of the Holy Ghost may bear much fruit in our souls. Obtain for us the grace to use the sword of truth to pare away all that is not in conformity to the most adorable Will of God in our lives, that we may fully participate in the army of the Church Militant. Amen.
I believe that aside from our angels in heaven, we also have wingless angels here on earth. :) They are people who mentor us, protect us, guide us, and lead us closer the Father. And I am blessed to be surrounded by a lot of them. :)
Ending this post with one of the first prayers I have learned (except for the last two lines):
