Couples for Christ Global celebrated its 32nd year as a community last June. I was privileged to be part of the Liturgy Committee and so from day 1 of the Global Leaders Empowerment Convention, I was in close contact with our guest priests. It was such an honor and I felt really blessed!
The highlight of the anniversary week was the grand celebration held on June 22 at Quirino Grandstand. And it was also one of the moments when I felt closest to God. The Holy Eucharistic celebration was presided by His Eminence, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop of Manila, joined by not less than 50 other priests including 2 bishops from all the world.
During the homily, Cardinal Tagle challenged the CFC community to live up to the theme of witnessing to the world. He then asked the crowd, "Who are you witnessing to?"
He continued, "The Christ that you know is the Christ that you witness to. Everyday, Jesus reveals Himself to us, but will we be there to get to know Him? We cannot attain to the knowledge of Christ without Him first revealing to us."
Cardinal Tagle also stated that he who witnesses to Christ does not only know Him, but follows Him and is one with Him. Jesus expects His witnesses to be true disciples, ones who can boldly proclaim, "I carry in my body the marks of the cross of Christ." (Galatians 6:17)
The homily ended with another question that is meant to be answered individually: "Do we know Christ? Are we united with Him as His disciples?"
Reflecting on the words of Cardinal Tagle, I realized that I still have a long way to go and a whole lot more to learn. I may not be an expert yet, I may never be one, but I know my God in a very personal way and I am a witness to His greatness, His faithfulness, His never-ending love and mercy. And for as long as I shall live, I will testify to His majesty, proclaim His glory, and witness to His amazing power and might! My prayer is that like St. Chi Zhuzi, I will also be able to say, "Every piece of my flesh, every drop of my blood will tell you that I am Christian."
My God is an awesome God!
His love is indescribable. :)
