I struggled on my fourth book this year. As you know, the world has changed all of a sudden. There's the Covid-19 pandemic, and we've been forced to stay at home for more than a month now. At first I thought it's not going to be a big deal (thank God I have some privileges, like wifi and work from home). But as the hours and days pass by, I find myself anxious about a lot of things, especially when you hear bad news after bad news. I couldn't concentrate (except at work - I have to focus on getting things done because that's the least I could do to show how grateful I am for being part of an organization that truly cares. Just a side note, I'm happy and proud at how our company is dealing with this crisis. I really applaud the foresight and the leadership of the management, local and global). I found myself starting several books but not finishing one, enrolling in online courses but not pushing through. I guess my mind too was cluttered. I wanted to do a lot all at the same time. Somehow I was pressured to be productive in my personal life that I ended up not doing anything (except for cooking and doing the laundry, and hearing mass, and praying). While watching the Big Bang Theory last night, I could relate to Leonard when he was trying so hard to list down the "cool stuff" that he and Penny did for the past year. I've been thinking of my own personal accomplishments too during this whole period of ECQ. And all I could think of were the stuff I started doing but haven't finished yet. Just like this book.
And so I woke up today with a strong desire to stop starting and start finishing. Let's begin with this book.
Bo Sanchez calls this the "Manual of Human Transformation", and rightfully so, because it tells you the step-by-step process of changing your life for the better. That's also the reason why I chose this as my "kick-off" book for my "transformation journey." (Big word! Please Lord, let's do this together.)
First things first, the book proposes that we do a 30-day challenge. It's been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit, but we want to go extra just to make sure we're sticking to it. Plus if you're already consistently doing something for 21 days, you wouldn't mind the next 9 days (and more). Like what the heroes say in My Hero Academia, "Go Beyond! Plus Ultra!" ❤️
I'll just share a couple of things because I encourage you to read it as well (or if you prefer watching, you can go to www.OverhaulVideoSeminar.com). I finshed the book in less than 3 hours, so yeah, it's an easy read. 🙂
7 Rules of the 30-Day Challenge
1. Select One Habit
2. Seal It For 30 Days
3. Strive to Do It Daily
4. Schedule an Exact Time
5. Switch to Your New Habit
6. Study about Your New Habit
7. Support Your New Habit
I won't elaborate since the rules are pretty much self-explanatory. 🙂
Now the book has a subtitle: Use the 4 Magical Steps to Transform Your Future.
Here are those 4 magical steps:
1. Purpose.
2. Plan.
3. Practice.
4. Patterns.
My favorite step is Practice. And it's actually my biggest takeaway. Start Now. Start Small. Start Again. Act As If. Simple, but takes a lot of courage and determination.
And so let me end with this prayer (also from the book):
Lord, I open myself to Your love.
Every door, every room, every area, every level, every dimension, every part of my life.
Every emotion, every habit, every issue, every addiction, every baggage, every burden, every hang-up, every sin…
I hide nothing back. I keep nothing back. I hold nothing back.
Because I know that You accept me, all of me, with my warts and weaknesses. And it’s Your embracing love that will change my life.
Today, I claim that You’re giving me a new heart.
Thank You so much.
In Jesus’ name…
Amen.
Let's head on to a future full of hope. Let's work on transforming our lives for the better. One day, one habit at a time. ❤️
