Proudly Filipino :)

Out of his love and devotion to our country, Alex Lacson wrote several patriotic books which are simple to understand, but powerful enough to awaken the heart of patriotism in every Filipino.

And because today is Independence Day, let's take time to reflect, based on one of Lacson's work, on the beauty and greatness that we have as a people and the Philippines as a nation.

As they say, blessings can only be seen from the heart, with the eyes of faith. A person who has not discovered his strengths, has not discovered his true power. We need to discover our strengths as a people. Upon those strengths, we can build the greatness of our nation. :)

12 Wonderful Things about the Filipino and our Motherland

1. The Filipino has a home for its family and people, a country so naturally rich and beautiful.
In our country, the Filipino is first class. As a people, we have abundance of the great essentials for living - the warmth of the sun, fresh water, fertile soil, beautiful beaches, etc. We have to be reminded of this because more often than not, when we have too much of a good thing, we often forget its value in our lives.

2. The Filipino brings hope to humanity. The Filipino heart is one of the biggest, one of the honest and most upright among mankind.
Kindness is a language that everyone understands in the world. Our highest hopes are in the hearts of our people. The world will see the beauty of our being in the beauty of our dreams as a people. The Filipino molds minds and hearts all over the globe as teachers, nurses, caregivers, surrogate mothers. With passing time, some may not fully appreciate that gift of the Filipino but the essence of that collective action continues - by one story, two stories, three stories at a time. Our heart is our identity.

3. The Filipino is part of the solution to the world's problems. It contributes to the advancement of human civilization.
The great thing that a small lamp can do that the big sun cannot do, is to give light at night. It is not the size but the purpose that matters.

4. The Filipino brings life to the world. He is one of the happiest and friendliest peoples of the earth.
Peace begins with a smile. Our world needs to be more happy. A beautiful world can only be seen through the eyes of a happy person. That is one of our core gifts as Filipinos, we are always full of life that even in the midst of the greatest challenges in life, we never fail to find a reason to smile. The world recognizes it that we are known as the happiest people in Asia and the 14th happiest people in the world.

5. The Filipino has a culture of heroism, the Bayanihan.
We already have within us and around us, all the essentials we need to succeed, to prosper, and to become great as a nation.

6. Filipinas are among the most beautiful, free and highly accomplished women in the world.
Our God, who loves us so much, wants the best, the highest, and the most beautiful for us. As a people, we should aim no less for ourselves. And we are so blessed by having the best women - the Filipinas - who are known as the best wives and mothers.

7. The Filipino is among the most respectful and tolerant of religious, cultural and political beliefs.
Our country is one of the freest, one of the most open and the most tolerant societies in the world. It all starts with respect. If there is respect, there will be harmony. If there is harmony, there will be unity. If there is unity, there will be progress and prosperity.

8. The Filipino is among the most creative, talented, and skillful human beings in the world.
Philippines is one of the great treasures of Asia. We are blessed by the quality and commitment of our people.

9. The Filipino can understand and speak the language of the world.
It does not cost anything to be kind and polite. By the words we speak, we can either build or destroy; we can either inspire or cause despair. We must choose to build, to inspire. We are the ambassadors of the Filipino, we are the ambassadors of our faith. We speak and understand the language of love.

10. The Filipino has a wonderful sense of family.
We did not choose our parents and relatives. God chose them for us. The Filipino's strong sense of family is well known among the world. It is one of the first things they will notice in us as a people. We Filipinos would do anything and everything for our family. This is something that we can impart to others. Family is the foundation of every nation, of humanity.

11. The Filipino is innately a peace-loving, non-violent, and freedom-loving person.
Freedom is one of the most beautiful gifts God gave to every man. We must not deny this beautiful thing to anyone on earth.

12.The Filipino is a person of faith. He brings other people to God.
The Filipino is a missionary. He has been molded and prepared to be a person of faith, a believer.

The time is very near for us to harvest, to shine and to celebrate. In fact, today, we celebrate our 115th  year of independence and every day we celebrate the nth day of God's faithfulness, providence, and overwhelming love to us Filipinos! :)

God gave us freedom so that we can freely love Him back. Let's not waste that freedom. :)

FREE TO SERVE. FREE TO LIVE. FREE TO LOVE. ALL FOR THE GREATER GLORY OF GOD! ♥

Understanding Lupang Hinirang

Every Filipino knows Lupang Hinirang (though some know it better as " Bayang Magiliw "). How can you not know it when it is the national anthem of the Philippines? But do we really mean the lyrics that we sing? Do we understand it in the first place?  Photo Credit:  http://diazi.ism-online.org This video has gone viral weeks ago. This afternoon, I shared it to my teammates, and one commented, "Yun pala yun . Ngayon ko lang naintindihan."   He immediately downloaded it and converted to MP3.   So for those who have not seen it, once again, here is Joey Ayala's version of Lupang Hinirang. And I agree, you would never want to sing it in another way. (But that's just me. :D) This rendition is simply beautiful. Truly Filipino. :) Of course that doesn't mean we need to revise our national anthem but maybe we can consider about correcting the way we sing it (read: proper pronunciation). Jesus Week 2015: A Time To HEAL ♥

I had the best, most meaningful HOLY WEEK ever, so far (the best is yet to come!). :) Thanks to Joy who shared the Jesus Week poster on Facebook. It was God's personal invitation, and I couldn't thank Him enough for the grace that He also gave me to respond. Everything is grace. It was not just my personal decision to join. It was God's grace that allowed me to.  So how did it go? Well, as what I have told my friends, it was amazingly beautiful! The experience was priceless! On Holy Monday, I posted Fr. Jerry Orbos' acronym for HOLY WEEK . I experienced all of that and more! :)  I won't be able to share everything as there is just a lot of personal, intimate encounters with the Lord. But if I were to summarize, it was a time for me to HEAL. :)  H alt . Indeed, I was able to stop and just rest in the Lord. Before leaving Manila, I have already told myself that this retreat will be all about Jesus ( Jesus Week nga e :D ). No emails, no texts, no calls. I...

Thank You, Lord! :)

It has been a long and stressful day (the past three days have been lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng and stressssssssssssssssssssssssssssssful), but You are just so amazing, Lord that I couldn't sleep without telling You how grateful I am. :) Thank You, Lord for the miracle that You did yesterday. Break even and more. :) Thank You, Lord for the laughter and stories shared during the post-mission meeting with Team Thailand. :) Team Thailand - Princesses from SFC Metro Manila :) Thank You, Lord for Lawrence. He is just the (almost) perfect man. He has his flaws, but they are acceptable; he makes mistakes, but they are all forgivable. There are a lot of men but there can never be anyone else. He's really the one. And You know it very well. :) ♥ Nemo. Love. ♥ Thank You, Lord for giving me strength and endurance each day. :) Thank You, Lord for the short but restful sleeps. :) Thank You, Lord for every waking moment and every opportunity that You give ...

The Holy Spirit*

*Cluster 4 Household Topic Reflections from John 15:26-16:4 True friendship is strengthened in adversity. Jesus offers His disciples the best and truest of friends. Who is this promised friend?  Jesus calls the Holy Spirit our Counselor and Advocate (also translated Paraclete or Helper). Counselor is a legal term for the one who will defend someone against an adversary and who guides that person during the ordeal of trial. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate and Helper who brings us safely through the challenges and adversities we must face in this life. As Jesus approaches the hour that He was to be glorified - through His death on the cross and His resurrection - He revealed more fully to His disciples the person and the role of the Holy Spirit. What does Jesus tell us about the Holy Spirit?  First, the Holy Spirit is inseparably one with the Father and the Son. It is the Holy Spirit who gives life - the very life of God - and who kindles faith in hearts r...
